Dr. James F. VanWagnen is an eye doctor dedicated to providing professional family vision eye care with the newest in vision equipment and the latest in frames, contacts and eye wear material. Personalized services are provided to persons of all ages.

Located in Alpena, Michigan since 1973, Down Home Optometry's family-oriented practice has a long tradition of providing personalized complete eye health care to area residents.

The office is at ground level and was completely remodeled recently for barrier-free handicapped accessibility.

Dr. VanWagnen's education began at Alma College in Michigan and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Optometry and a Doctorate of Optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry.  His many years of experience enables him to practice with extraordinary expertise and caring which is a major benefit to Alpena, Michigan and the surrounding area.

He and his wife, Paula, enjoy the Alpena area and being involved as counselors for the Youth Fellowship at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Dr. VanWagnen sings with the Besser Male Chorus and the Alpena Community Chorus. He also belongs to the Alpena Leads Club, Chamber of Commerce and Alpena Rotary Club.
